CONTACT  IMPROVISATION
Contact Improvisation (CI) is considered an Art Sport as well as a Somatic Movement
form.  Originated in the 1970s, by visionary Steve Paxton, it is a spontaneous dance
form that uses the physics of touch, weight, momentum, gravity and flying to create
in-the-moment movement experiences.  Theoretically a non-heirarchical form, it is
practiced by professional dancers and non- professionals alike.

Teri has practiced and taught CI since 1985, throughout the U.S. and in Europe and
Mexico.  She has studied, collaborated and performed with renown CI Artists such
as Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Andrew Harwood, Karen Nelson, Alito Alessi, KJ
Holmes, Angus Balberni, Ione Beauchamp, Saliq Francis, and Carol Swann.
She authored a choreographic thesis project
looking at the historical development of
Contact in performance, entitled "On The
Shoulders of Giants."  For this project she
interviewed many of the originating founders
of the form, and fashioned one of her pieces
after Steve Paxton's "Fall After Newton."

Teri has taught and performed CI in
numerous Contact Festivals and workshops,
including NYC's Improv Fetival, the West
Coast Contact Improvisation Festival, the
Breitenbush Contact Festival, Contact
Quarterly's 25th Anniversary Celebration, the
European Contact Teacher's Festival, Earth
Dance Festivities, the East Coast CI Jam,
L.A.'s ID Fest, among others.
