Teri Carter (of L.A.'s Intention Dance Theatre & SOMAfest) and Caryn Heilman (of NYC's Liquid Body Dance & former dancer with Paul Taylor Dance Co.) perform: April 3 & 4, 8pm Miles Playhouse, 1130 Lincoln Blvd, Santa Monica, CA. 90403 Featuring compelling works by three local choreographers including: Teri Carter will be performing a collaborative duet with Caryn Heilman called "Family Tree", focusing on the 'human empathic capacity for interspecies embodiment & consciousness'. Video, text, audience participation and kinesthetic transformation mark this multi-media piece which draws on the somatic movement form of Continuum. "Family Tree" reveals the possibility of a newly developing human, one that draws from millennia of bio-system information to find a fluid plasticity in response to relationship and environment. The message is in the tissue movement and the fluids. "All living processes owe their lineage to the movement of water." Emilie Conrad, Founder of Continuum Movement |
| Other performances include: Honey Almazar and the Santa Monica Contemporary Ballet will be presenting a short ballet "The Ones Who Are Left" with dancers Honey Almazar, James Keene, Maria Pena. And finally "A Dance for Lucene", choreograohed by Suchi Branfman, is created in honor of an 84 year-old "lifer", who Suchi met while visiting the California Institute for Women in Chino. Performed by young dancers from Scripps College Dance Department, the dance asks us to question our assumptions about people, the scars we all have, the mistakes we have all made, the damage that has been done to us and how we survive.
