AUTHENTIC MOVEMENT® & CONTACT IMPROVISATION Angels in Our Midst 2 Part Intensive: Fri/Sat, 9/19-20, 2pm-4:30pm
|
We’ll investigate the multi-faceted dimensions of the physical contact that may
arise during the contemplative practice of Authentic Movement, as well as the
opportunities created by intentionally exploring Contact Improvisation dances
blindfolded, or with eyes closed. Invariably, we find that our relationship to physical
risk, sensation, intimacy, image, and personal narrative becomes heightened or altered
in the muting of our deeply powerful sense of sight. We may thus uncover new
movement vocabulary and pathways and an ability to identify and strengthen our own
solos within the dance.

BIOGRAPHY:
A solo and collaborative movement artist, Stefanie Cohen teaches and performs at
universities, retreat centers and festivals throughout the country. Over the past
eighteen years she has been an avid performer and facilitator of improvisation,
contemplative movement, writing and creative process. Among many influences and
teachers she cites K.J. Holmes, Danny Lepkoff, Karen Nelson, Lisa Nelson, Christie
Svane, and the techniques and somatic practices of Contact Improvisation, and
Continuum Movement, having also completed the Contemplative Dance training in
Authentic Movement, in 1998. She danced, originally, in Boston, working for a decade
with countless musicians, sound, textual and installation artists, then moved to the
Midwest, co-creating GLACIER and joining the dance collective, LAVA, in 2001.
